Process for Final Installation
by admin on September 12th, 2008
Feed back from stage 2 allowed me to develop my idea and hopefully resolved the installation. Knowing now that stage 2 had the qualities of 2 projects, I approached the personal issues of the project, as in this installations I’m making a statement about how media uses appeals in advertising to manipulate the user.
Continuing with the ideas of peoples views on advertising appeals, or how they think appeals manipulate them towards the product creates a personal connection with the user in the space. Developing this idea through inspiration from “Merchants of Cool” by Douglas Rushkoff, helped me understand interview methods within the realms of advertising and the techniques used to identify manipulation styles for certain age groups/target markets.
From this I developed my idea to a empty room with a tv and chair sitting in the middle with a remote on a side table. The Idea was that peoples intuition would tell them to sit down and use the remote to change the channel, where the messages of appeals would then talk to the user.
This didn’t follow all my criteria I put out for my installation so the idea was ditched. Exploring into more feed back I looked at this video on youtube.
Basing my idea on this type of layout will achieve all of my criteria, with a few changes.
Max/msp patch
by admin on September 1st, 2008
This patch achieves the basics of playing each video on the press of a button. Using this method gets repetitive, so more randomness needs to be introduced to achieve the ability of confusion within the user.

Installation Criteria
by admin on September 1st, 2008
For the final installation I want to have some official criteria that creates a definite statement about the influence of advertising on our actions.
The Criteria:
-Movement, through the user, within the space.
-Create a form of confusion, like a lack of understanding of the installation or whats happening.
-A form of irony. The actions of the user will be a mimic of those taken everyday with the influence of advertising.
-To have something that brands the user constantly while in the space.
-Create a relationship with the user. Having peoples honest opinions of the effect advertising appeals have on us.

Testing
by admin on August 31st, 2008
This is testing the ability to change movies with photo sensors. In this I have used the Arduino and max/msp, and the same with the test below.
This is an quick test of film in a space. Movies getting changed through the use of buttons.
